cover letter
I have never made a Prezi before, and it was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be, but we, (Madison & I) tried our best. We had a little trouble leading from one point to the next, not with the Prezi, but connecting the information. I would like to improve the project a little more by pointing each idea/supporting point back to the thesis. We only included 1/2 of our main ideas/points because we wanted some feedback before we finished the entire Prezi only to find out that it wasn't going to work. It's pretty difficult to go back in and insert information into the Prezi once you've finished, so we wanted a good starting point. Please let me/us know how we can improve the flow of the ideas/how we could insert ourselves, and our stories into the presentation more. We also want to veer away from it being a history project-- which is what it kind of feels like.
thanks, Katie
While going through, and looking at Madison and Katie's paper, I believe that they were trying to show how just important many literacies can be, when it comes to steering us into the pathway for our education. They use schooling as a big literacy, and explain how it wasn't always there as a sponsor, but how having it now is a great benefit to society. I think the way they present this information is very creative and unique. Another thing I really thought was working well, but maybe you could add a little more of, was the use of specific dates to back up each sponsor. I know you said, you weren't quite done yet, but maybe when you go back and add some more literacies, try to relate them back to yourselves like you did with school, and explaining just how important having each one is. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this paper (or project)! Nice job to both of you!
ReplyDeleteMadison and Katie show through their prezi presentation and cover letter, how literacy has become more readily available over the past 100 years, and how school was the largest literacy sponsor they each had and why it was so important. They gave statistics for % of people completing college, and how many schools their are.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy prezi presentations, past teachers of mine use them and they are difficult to use, so nice job breaking out of the standard of a website or powerpoint. However, I felt that it was a little short, maybe add more supporting facts and a summary your point and tie in your facts. I liked your idea that schooling is the largest literacy, however I feel your statistics didn't support each other very well, your statistic for how many schools there were in 1940-2010 seemed not as dramatic as you'd hope for this type of presentation(maybe try a different statistic). When you discuss the past 100 years talk about the time period and how this affects schooling in literacy, for example in the early 1900s their wasnt a need for people to go to college because big corporate businesses were less apparent. Overall I liked your project and how you used prezi it gave a good look and fluidity to how the information was presented. It is heading in the right direction.
Peer Review: In your paper you focused on literacy as types of reading & writing, but I think It’s important to mention other literacies that exist. My take on your paper is that you believe to succeed in an academic environment you need to be literate, at least in reading and writing, the ability to read&write requires a sponsor, which wasn’t always available, and since it now is more people are able to empower themselves. I think you need to build more information around questions # 2,4,5 on your webpage because they seem out of place to me. (Or at least unnecessary)
ReplyDeleteAs for the presentation it was very asthetically pleasing, and it had a good flow of information, and made it easy for you to control the presentation of information to your viewers.
