Question For Discussion
1. Even though he may have been young, he was aware of the expectations of him. It was a self-fulfilling prophecy, thus he didn't expect to go far with his reading and writing because he was told that the odds and the expectations are not in favor of him.
Applying and Exploring Ideas
1. I do believe in the power of adversity and motivation, however, as unfortunate as it is, finances hold back youth from advancing themselves academically in the world today. Due to the cost of education, there is only so far motivation can get you, despite the good grades and positive attitude, eventually push comes to shove and sadly, finances hold people back from furthering their education. Unfortunately, in today's world- resources and connections are everything.
My Own Thoughts
It's very unfortunate and frustrating that finances can hold people back from achieving their goals, and furthering their education. It's sad that having the brains and the will power are no longer enough to get ahead in this world. Now, and even more so in the future, loans and connections and resources and background is going to be vital.
I really like how you brought up self-fulfilling prophecy. I was trying to think of that term for hours last night and gave up. I think you did very well on these articles and I like your thoughts on the article. The idea of loans and connections you make was a good idea.
